John Di Paola is an orthopedic surgeon running for Oregon’s Fifth Congressional District.

For more than 30 years, John has dedicated his surgical talents to working Oregonians with compassion and personalized care.

John is running for Congress to end the stalemate caused by out of touch career politicians and to put the people of Oregon first. John has a plan to address homelessness, protect the community, improve K-12 education, and advocate for the environment with common sense solutions that keep the economy intact.

John comes from humble beginnings in New Jersey where his family immigrated from Italy. As a young man, he supported himself with a string of back-breaking jobs, from laboring in a paper mill, to baling hay, to building houses; until a fateful layoff led him to a job as an orderly at a hospital where he discovered a path to creating a meaningful life dedicated to the service of others. A college dropout, John went back to school while working full time to complete a bachelor’s degree. He was accepted into Rutgers Medical School while supporting himself by running his own part time construction business.

Twenty years ago, John opened Occupational Orthopedics in Tualatin where he provided specialty care exclusively for injured workers with orthopedic injuries. His practice has helped thousands of individuals with workplace related injuries. Caring for people who share his working-class roots has always been a top priority for John.

John retired from active practice in 2020 and continues to devote his expertise to the legal community. John and his wife, Lori, raised four children in Lake Oswego and currently reside in Wilsonville. He spends his free time flyfishing and tending to his native plant gardens.
